FITNESS TRAINING – 30 Sep 17

Richard Kirk asks:

  • Would you like to be a little fitter?
  • Do you want to tackle that last control with zest instead of on your knees?
  • Do you fancy being able to gallop uphill rather than stagger?
  • Do you want work off some summer fat and get into the new season with some bounce?

….THEN try his free Fitness Session:

Saturday 30 September 2017 from 2.00pm – 3.30pm

Location:         Jacob Smith Park, Scriven Road, Knaresborough.  Meet just inside the Park entrance (SE348581) – opposite Park Grove.

The session will be for 90 minutes and will comprise:

  • Some dynamic stretching. Learn how to do the carioca!  Do some silly walks!
  • A run uphill and ……….. more runs uphill.
  • The interval quickstep.
  • Unwind with some stretching exercises – try out a stretch of your iliotibial band or your quads, or just hug your knees.

Terrain:         Exercises will be exclusively on soft grass.  We will be using a cleared area and various paths.  We will not be in the overgrown areas.  Jacob Smith is great place for a quiet run over pleasantly undulating terrain.

Equipment:    You need what you would normally wear to run on open terrain.  Shorts will be OK, but have a track suit or equivalent with you to help control your cooling down.  Bring a waterproof in case of wet weather.  Do not forget to pack some drinks for re-hydration and maybe even a snack bar.

In the unlikely event of the need to cancel e.g. really bad weather there will be a notice here, so please check the website before coming along on the day.

This session is for EVERYONE whatever your age or level of fitness. Whether you have never even tried to run for a bus or are able to overtake it, I will have an exercise programme tailored for you.

See you there!

Richard.

Club Coaching – Be a Better Orienteer!

Coaching – Compass work

If you have never really used a compass in orienteering, or if you think you need a refresher, then the next CLARO coaching session is for you. The session title is “Introduction to the Orienteering Compass and its use” and it will include a demonstration and some exercises, plus a short score event if time permits.

Please meet at 2.00pm on Saturday 25th November 2016 at the Crucifix monument (just near the top end of the mini-golf course) in Valley Gardens, Harrogate. Cost £1.50. Each session will last about 90 minutes.

No specialist equipment is needed. Compasses will be provided. Wear suitable footwear for running on rough ground and clothing appropriate to being outside whatever the weather – preferably clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy.

Club Picnic

Well done to Ruth and Tamsin for a successful picnic event on Sunday.  The results are up, together with some photos, including some of the excellent, club branded cakes by the Whitakers. Well done also to Steve and Luke Fry for winning and earning the right to organise next year!

Congratulations to the schools champions as well – the prize giving was at the picnic.

Christmas Dinner

The wait is finally over – details of this year’s Christmas Dinner can be found here.  It should be splendid! Please let us know if you want to come as we need to secure the best table.  And no, this is not me taking over as Social Secretary – just helping out until someone volunteers!

The Weekend the Clocks Went Back

What were you doing the weekend the clocks went back?

A comment made at our recent AGM about how few Claros had been spotted at recent events got Linda thinking, “If we weren’t orienteering at the weekend what were we all doing?”   So via the means of modern technology she decided to find out.   It seems we were all very busy!  Thank you to everyone who replied.   Here’s what we were up to:

Geoffrey and Lindsey Hensman:  Falkirk Park Run.  This is the second time we have been, although Geoffrey did a few when we were still in Harrogate.  Continue reading The Weekend the Clocks Went Back

Junior Training Success

The successful series of junior training events concluded this week as the light evenings draw to a close.  They were well attended and we hope that not only did the participants enjoy themselves, but also that they will go on to enjoy the sport in the future, perhaps even as club members.  Thanks to Phil, Jemima and Richard for organising.  If you (or your mum or dad) want to have a go, there are plenty of local events in the calendar, and always people on hand to help those that need it – all you have to do is ask!
