Organiser’s Comments

Mother’s Day 2017 – a brilliant sunny day at our Lindley Moor event, held at an altitude of almost 1000ft under the watchful eye of Curlews and Kites.

Our original venue at Guiscliffe had to be changed in January when we learned we could not access all areas.  Graham Ramsden, Controller and principal contact for the new landowners, obtained the go ahead for the event at Lindley Moor and parking permission was secured nearby. Our thanks go to Malcolm and Geoffrey Blade for kindly making their fields available for parking but as the ground simply never dried out in time, it was the Forestry Commission who saved the day by allowing us to use the forest roads.  The courses were planned based on our original parking location but with the late switch, keeping moving vehicles away from runners meant a long walk from parking and thank you to all competitors for their understanding.

We were unfortunately down on numbers 118 v 200 anticipated -which could be due  to a number of factors –Mother’s Day, the clocks going forward , the Warwickshire Orienteering Weekend or the prospect of a long walk to  registration and the start? Those who turned up however were rewarded with good courses in challenging terrain planned by Liz Potterton and calmly controlled by Graham Ramsden.

It was pleasing to see a good number of younger competitors from W6 upwards who tackled their courses with enthusiasm whilst there was also a notable turnout of CLOK’s finest M and W 80’s.

Thank you to all the landowners and tenants involved- M & G Blade, Forestry Commission and Keith Chapman. And thanks also to all the CLARO members for so willingly supporting the event.
