Final Details

Claro will host a Regional Event at Hookstone in Harrogate on Sunday 27th September 2020.

Entries are now closed.

The start list is available here. If you have any problems with this please contact: treasurer at claro

COVID GUIDELINES: Remember that COVID guidelines require us to avoid congregating in crowds, even outside, so please do not hang about the carpark, download etc.. There are many nice cafes and parks in Harrogate that you could visit to socialise! We are particularly concerned to be seen to be doing the right thing as this is a popular area with dog walkers and the general public.

The Scout Hut used for toilets has a NHS track-n-trace app QR code so download the app and point your phone camera at the QR code in the Scout Hut porch if you use the toilets.

CONTROL DESCRIPTIONS Will not be available loose at the start although they will be on your map. You can print off from the following PDF files – please check the file so you print off just the page that you want.

PARKING: Parking is on a large hardcore area near the scout hut which is also used by the general public.  Please follow directions and park neatly – we do have limited space.  Please do not use the parking area on the left which is for the Sports Centre.

START,FINISH,DOWNLOAD: The start is about 200m from the car park and the finish is about 100m from the car park. Download is adjacent to the car park. Please do not join start or download queues if there are already six people there. There will be three starts close together in an open area that all lead to the same start kite. The three starts are for courses:

  • blue
  • green and short green
  • light green, orange, yellow and white

Please join the right queue and use the sanitiser available at the start of the queue.  The queue is marked out by stakes with clear and check boxes on those stakes.  Please have your dibber number ready to confirm to the start official and be ready to start in about 1 minute of reaching the front of the queue. Please try to not touch boxes in the start lane or on the course.

TOILET:   There will be two toilets available in the scout hut adjascent to the carpark. Please:

  • queue outside the hut (the usual 2m) and follow a ‘one in after one out’ rule
  • do not join the queue if there are already six people there
  • give priority to helpers
  • use sanitiser on entering and exiting the building
  • use the NHS track-and-trace QR code in the building porch
  • inform the organiser (via download) of any problems

TERRAIN:    The map has been extended for this event to include a picturesque area of woodland alongside the River Crimple beyond a huge viaduct.   The map covers large areas of very runnable open parkland with several small woods with some interesting contour details.  The area is suitable for novice orienteers.

Claro Covid Secure Entries

In accordance with the guidelines produced by British Orienteering for the resumption of orienteering in England all events are to be pre-registration only, with no entries taken on the day. This will allow Claro to manage the number of participants, in order to comply with restrictions on the size of gatherings, avoid queues of people on the day, and minimise the need for face-to-face interactions.

All participants taking part in orienteering must use a pre-registration system which records specific details about competitors. This will allow Claro to share information with NHS Test & Trace should it be required. This information will be retained for 21 days, unless it is necessary to retain it for longer for another purpose.

By entering this event competitors acknowledge that they must not attend if they or a member of their household has COVID-19 symptoms, or if they have been asked to isolate by NHS Test and Trace, and that they will abide by the Participant Code of Conduct at all times.

SI cards must be hired prior to the event, as part of the pre-registration process. Cards will be cleaned and individually bagged prior to issue at the event.

Entries and SI card-hire fees should be paid before the event by bank transfer to the club account. Claro will provide a full refund to anyone who needs to withdraw their entry because they or a member of their household has COVID-19 symptoms, or because they have been asked to isolate by NHS Test and Trace. If the event has to be cancelled or postponed at short notice, including as a result of a change in local or national restrictions we will refund entry fees, less any administration costs, or credit the fee towards the next Claro event.

Start Times

Government guidelines state that no more than six people, including any officials, must be present in the immediate start area at any one time, and social distancing must be maintained between people from different households. Therefore competitors will be allocated a fifteen-minute start window. No more than fifteen entries will be allowed to start in any fifteen-minute window unless they are in the same household (or support bubble).

We will ensure that there are some free slots in the start list so that people who miss their allocated slot do not need to wait at the start area for a long period.

We will try to allocate each entry their requested time slot but if full we will allocate the nearest one available.

DOGS: Dogs are not permitted on the courses – longer courses may cross fields with sheep.

SAFETY: Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. Whistles and full leg cover are compulsory.  All competitors who start must report to download even if they retire. In the event of cancellation, details will be posted on the Claro website – www.claro-orienteering.org.uk. Information can also be obtained by phoning the organiser.

RESULTS: These will be posted on the Claro website www.claro-orienteering.org.uk.

PHOTOGRAPHY: In accordance with the British Orienteering Safeguarding Procedures, the organiser of this event requires that any person wishing to engage in any video, zoom or close range photography should register their details with the organiser before carrying out any such photography. The organiser reserves the right to decline entry to any person unable to meet or abide by the organiser’s conditions. The club policy is here.
