Claro will host an urban middle distance event at Knaresborough Castle on Wednesday evening 21st August 2019. This is part of the  Race the Castles 2019 series. Following on from the very successful Race the Castles in 2014, the event now comes to Yorkshire and the East Midlands with 12 different orienteering events in just 9 days, all with a (tenuous!) castle theme.

There are changes to the parking arrangements and competitor entrance to the event.

Some cars can now use school grounds for parking from the entrance on King James Road. Drivers should take extra care as there will be runners going to the start and later returning via this entrance on their courses. Any cars using this entrance and parking in the school grounds should not be moved between 1815 and 1915 when competitor movement is likely to be greatest. The original parking on Aspin Lane described below will be used as overflow parking. Those using the overflow parking can enter the school grounds on foot via a green gate on Aspin Lane which is no further away from registration than some of the parking in the school grounds.

The nearest postcode for the school entrance is HG5 8EB. The grid reference is SE 3533 5668.

DIRECTIONS:
RAIL: There are regular rail services to Knaresbough on the York-Harrogate line and from the station go right up Station Rd onto the High Street then proceed 500m right to King James School.

CAR: The event is based at King James School which is at the east end of Knaresborough High Street.  Competitors should park in the school grounds or on the roadside in Aspin Lane and surrounding roads.

Approaching Knaresborough from the east on the A59 go straight through traffic lights at Wetherby Road (or from Wetherby Road, B6164, turn left at the lights) then the first good turn left after 600m onto King James Rd. (beware there is an acute left turn after about 400m onto a blocked off road). At the end of King James Road (200m) turn left onto Aspin Lane.

From the west on the A59 go along Knaresborough High Street, through traffic lights at Gracious Street and take second right onto King James Road. At the end of King James Road (200m) turn left onto Aspin Lane.

Please park on the east side of Aspin Lane or in nearby streets with consideration of safety on the road corners and access to properties for local residents.
