ALL EVENTS
Format: 45 minute score event (see below for explanation). Mass start 1830, although late starters can be accommodated until 1845. Controls recorded using the MapRun App (see below) – easy to install on your phone!
Entries: pre-entries via Racesignup until 1700 on the night before (Mon) to guarantee a map. After this, entries will be available via Racesignup or on the evening, subject to map availability. Entries on the day: via Racesignup or bank transfer.
Event Fees: Individual events – Seniors: BOF members £4, non-members £5; Juniors: £1. Season tickets for all 6 events – Seniors: BOF members £20, non-members £25; Juniors: £5 (i.e. 6 events for the price of 5).
Results: posted here after the event and on the results page.
Post-event social: each event will have a designated pub or bar for a post-event drink (and/or meal if available) – a great way of getting to meet club members!
Safety: Runners must wear hi-vis vest, jacket or other top, and be aware that courses will be crossing roads, some may be busy. A head torch is essential, as is a smartphone, /Garmin or Apple watch for control recording. As the events are held on public roads, event insurance requires that under-16s may only take part if accompanied by an adult.
Score events: The aim of a score event is to score as many points as possible within the time limit. All events will have approximately 30 controls, each worth 20 points. You lose 10 points for every minute or part minute you are late back (best not to be!).
Using Maprun: The Maprun app enables GPS based orienteering without the need for physical controls. It’s fun! The app is available via the usual sources of apps for Android and Iphones. Go here to practise using it on one of the club’s permanently available score events, and for advice on how to use the app. Details for downloading courses for each event will be available in the ‘Next Event’ section above. Help will also be available on the night, or see enquiries below.
Enquiries: For any entries enquiries, contact Linda Kelly; for other enquiries, contact Quentin Harding.
