Future Events

All Claro events include courses and support for newcomers and novice orienteers unless otherwise explicity stated in the event details. All events are open to orienteers from all clubs and those not yet affiliated, again unless otherwise explicitly stated. Team fixtures are events in which Claro will normally aim to field teams. It’s rare for one of these to be organised by the club (but we are organising the area CSC match in 2027!).
CSC = Compass Sport Cup, NYMBO = North Yorkshire Mountain Bike Orienteering (link at bottom of page), UKUL = UK Urban League, YNL = Yorkshire Night League, YUL = Yorkshire Urban League. For event types see notes below.

MapRun events: These are 45 minute score events using ‘MapRun’, a free app for smartphone and/or Garmin watch that allows one to ‘punch’ controls using GPS – the same technology that is used by NYMBO, Spunch and many other events. Maps used are based on Open Street maps. Help is available from the MapRun website and at all Claro MapRun based events.

MapRun+ events: These are score events with 60-minute, 90-minute and 120-minute classes, otherwise exactly the same as MapRun events above, although maps can be enlarged OS 1:25000 or orienteering urban maps.

Other events (Regional, National, Night, Urban) usually offer a range of ‘cross-country’ courses (ie courses with controls visited in a set order where the result is based on the time you take) suitable for everybody from young beginners to experienced adults. For specific details of what courses are available, see individual event pages. Unless other stated, events are ‘long’ distance (winning times 50-60 mins+), with others being ‘Middle’ (35-40 mins) and ‘Sprint’ (ie short, usually two separate runs c.15 mins each).
