CLARO will host a Regional (Level C) orienteering event at Swinsty and Beecroft Plantations 10k to the West of Harrogate on Sunday 19th November 2017.

ENTRIES:   Entry on the day only (EOD).  SI punching will be used for all courses.  Hire dibbers will be available. If you run with an SI Card (dibber) not registered to you personally please tell someone at Download or your result may be attributed to the registered owner. More info here.

FEES:        Senior £7,    Junior £2.50,    SI dibber hire £1 (Juniors 50p) Maximum family charge £15. Non BOF members: £8 senior, £3 Junior.

DIRECTIONS: The area is approximately 10k to the west of Harrogate along the A59 and approximately 2k south from Blubberhouses. Please follow the brown tourist signs for Swinsty Reservoir from Blubberhouses. Post code for the car park is LS21 2NP. Grid Ref. SE187538.

PARKING: Car parking will be in the Yorkshire Water car park at the south end of the dam. Parking is free, but is limited, so please do car share and follow marshall directions. Drivers to be aware of runners and pedestrians when approaching and within the car park.

TERRAIN:         The area is a mix of mature woodland plantation which is on moderate slopes and of variable runnability

MAP:         1:10,000 scale with 5m contours for all courses. Fully redrawn in 2015, with recent revisions. Printed on waterproof paper. Control descriptions will be printed on the map and will be available loose in the start lanes.

COURSES:        The courses listed below will be available.  All details are provisional, subject to final controlling and will be updated when finalised.

START: will be a reasonably flat 1 km from assembly, the finish is close to the start. The route to the start (and return from the finish) requires a minor road crossing.

TIMINGS:
Registration open: 10:00am – 12:00noon
Starts: 10:30am – 12:30 pm
Courses close: 2:30pm

FACILITIES:The assembly area will be in the YW car park where toilets are also located. Water will be available at the finish.

DOGS: Dogs are permitted in the assembly area, but must be on a lead.

SAFETY: Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. If travelling alone, please leave your keys at registration. All competitors who start must report to download even if they retire. Whistles and full leg cover compulsory. Waterproof jackets may be compulsory in the case of bad weather.
Green, Blue and Brown courses cross a minor road into Swinsty Moor Planation.  Other than the obvious crossing points, the road is out of bounds – and marked as such on the map. Participants to be aware of, and be considerate to, other area users particularly dog walkers, off road cyclists, and horse riders.

PHOTOGRAPHY:  In accordance with the British Orienteering Child Welfare Policy and Procedures, the organiser of this event requires that any person wishing to engage in any video, zoom or close range photography should register their details with the organiser before carrying out any such photography.
