Format: 45 minute score event. All events have approximately 30 controls, each worth 20 points. You lose 10 points for every minute or part minute you are late back (best not to be!). Controls are recorded using the Maprun app – easy to install on your phone (see below)! If you do not have a smartphone, alternative arrangements can be made (contact enquiries below).
Times: Pre-event briefing 1820, mass start at 1830. Late starters can be accommodated until 1845.
Safety: Runners must wear hi-vis vest, jacket or other top, and be aware that courses will be crossing roads, some may be busy. A head torch is essential, as is a smartphone (with or without Garmin/Apple watch) for control recording. As the events are held on public roads, event insurance requires that under-16s may only take part if accompanied by an adult.
Using Maprun: You will need Maprun version 7.9.0 or later. It can be used with a smartphone alone, or in conjunction with most Garmin and Apple watches. The app enables GPS based orienteering without the need for physical controls. It’s fun! It is available via the usual sources for Android and Iphones apps. Go here to practise using it on one of the club’s permanently available score events, and for advice on how to use the app. Details of which event to download will be made available before the event at the top of this page. Help will also be available on the night, or see enquiries below.
Enquiries: For any entries enquiries, contact Linda Kelly; for other enquiries, contact Quentin Harding.
