SES5: 20th Jun: Thornthwaite Results

RESULTS

Sorry for the delay in publishing these results, there was more work to generating than I had expected. Please check them through and if you wish to comment I will be willing to listen.

Congratulation to the Taylors for coming out on top in the straight score event, but we should also congratulate Pippa Thompson for visited all but one control with just 7 seconds to spare.

The snooker event was much easier for those who know how the game is played, the results suggest that the Parker family probably have a table at home.

I hope you enjoyed Thornthwaite, it is a small compact area just suited to this style of fun event. Thank you to the Scouts for allowing us to use it for the evening.

Travel to Thornthwaite Scout Camp via Dacre: please DO NOT follow any road signs for Thorntwaite village or rely on SatNav directions!

When approaching from the West along the A59: Take the A59 from Skipton and continue along the A59. After passing through Blubberhouses continue to the Menwith Hill Crossroads where you turn left on to the Pateley Bridge road (B6451). Also signed with brown tourist signs for Nidderdale attractions.

When approaching from Harrogate along the A59: Continue along the A59 past the wind farm until you come to the Menwith Hill crossroads, where you turn right on to the Pateley Bridge road (B6451). Also signed with brown tourist signs for Nidderdale attractions.

From Menwith Hill crossroads: Follow the B6451 for about 3miles passing the Darley Mill centre. Ignore any signs for Thornthwaite village and keep on the main road up the hill into Dacre village. At the top end of the village immediately past public toilets and a red telephone box, turn left into Dacre Lane (signed Braithwaite). There is also a small ‘Scout’ sign attached below the direction sign.

Follow Dacre Lane for nearly 1.5 miles and watch for a junction on the left signed Dacre Pasture Lane. There is a fairly large sign for Thornthwaite Scout Activity Centre but it is partly obscured by footpath finger post signs. Turn left down Dacre Pasture lane. After approx 1/2mile the entrance to the Campsite is on the left and there is a sign.

The track is quite rough so drive slowly, do not turn right down to the farm keep straight on across 2 fields and you come to the entrance to the campsite, turn right down the drive.

The Reds will be numbered R1, R2, R3 up to R15 and be worth 1 point. These reds can be taken in any order, separated by another colour Yellow Yw (2 points), Green Gn (3 points), Brown Bn (4 points), Blue Be (5 points), Pink Pk (6 points)or Black Bk (7 points). Once you have visited as many of the Red/Colour combinations you wish (up to 15 possible), you can clear as many of the colours in the sequence: Yellow, Green, Brown, Blue, Pink then Black, before returning to the finish. There will be penalties for lateness of 2 points per minute or part there of. If you are unsure of the rules of snooker, you may wish to swot up on them before the event!
