Claro qualify for Compass Sport Trophy Final!

Claros celebrating at the postrace meal near Ilkley as captain Quentin confirms the result! It was close!
For the first time since 2019, the club has qualified for the national final of the Compass Sport Trophy!
With a fabulous turnout of over 30 club members (the largest team in our heat!) on wet and windy Ilkley Moor, the Claro team produced a superb result in finishing second, just behind Northern Navigators, with 2 teams to qualify for the final. It was an incredibly tight competition, as the club managed to hold off East Pennines by a whisker, with last year’s finalists Eborienteers slipping to 4th position, still only a few points further back.
Well done to everybody! This was a huge team achievement, with not only the 13 counters contributing, but others pushing other club counters down the points, providing invaluable backup (it’s never certain who will count!), and generating a brilliant team atmosphere.
Result: 1-Northern Navigators 1274pts, 2-Claro 1264, 3-East Pennines 1258, 4-Eborienteers 1246, 5-Newcaste and Tyneside 937.
An added bonus is that this year’s final is relatively close to home (last time it was in Sussex!), as it’s being hosted by Cleveland OK at South Gare, Redcar (so still in Yorkshire!). So do please put Sunday September 14th in your diary. Your club will definitely need YOU!
(The Compass Sport Trophy is the national inter-club competition for smaller clubs with up to 120 members. Claro has actually won it, in back in 1997 and 1998, but this is just the third time we’ve achieved the final since, the others being 2017, in Exeter, and 2019, in Sussex, finishing 8th on both occasions)
