What’s available: Jacob Smith Park is one of Knaresborough’s best kept secrets. This small walled park is perfect for children, young people and those new to the sport to orienteer. You can’t get lost and there is only one gate in and out. Lots of paths, grassy slopes, interesting fences trees and other features. Liz has had fun planning some great courses. Two very short starter courses to help you get your eye in, five short but getting progressively harder ones and then an Orange* standard course to put some of our more exercised youngsters and novice adults through their paces. Come and do and many courses as you like. All welcome. Our band of happy helpers will be there to get you started.

*Jargon explained: Orienteering uses a range of colours (like the judo belt system) to describe the technical difficulty of the courses, starting at White, and progressing through Yellow, Orange, Light Green to the highest level at Green/Blue/Brown/Black where the differences are then physical (length, climb) rather than technical. All courses at this event will be in the range White to Orange – best for junior beginners/intermediates and adult beginners.
