Junior Sprint Event – St Aidan’s School Saturday 22nd April

Results

This event will be a bit different to the normal Claro junior events. We will be using the school grounds of St Aidan’s School to do some sprint orienteering. For this, the courses are shorter, the map simpler, but there is the added pressure and excitement of making quick route choice decisions. In sprint orienteering, seconds count!

By whatever means you arrive, please use the entrance to Bede car, park accessed off Oatlands Drive, Harrogate, as indicated on the map below. An orienteering kite will be hanging on the gate. For those arriving by car, please park in this car park and then walk to the pedestrian gate to the left of the clock tower. We will be situated just inside this gate. This is a security gate and you must be let in by someone inside. We should see you but please call if nobody assists. The car park will be locked until 1pm, so do not turn up too early.

Registration & Cost

No need to register in advance. Just Enter on the Day (EOD), when you arrive. The cost for all the courses available is:

Children £3. Adults £4. Claro members (1.50/£2)

Please try to arrive in the first half hour of the session in order that you can have a go at all that is on offer. The session will run from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, with the courses closing at 3:30pm.

Getting Started & Courses

Sprint maps are slightly different to terrain maps and so, for those new to sprints, there will be an introductory walk before your first course. After that there are four courses that vary in length from 500m to 1.3km. To conclude, there will be some little races on offer to put your new skills to the test.

When you arrive, you will receive a “Dibber”, an electronic timing chip, that you will use around each course you do. When you have finished for the day please return it to registration.

The courses cover the grounds of St Aidan’s; depending on recent weather, the playing fields may be both wet and muddy. Please wear appropriate footwear for both grass and paths.

Please take care when running around blind corners; keep wide as there might be someone coming around in the opposite direction.
