OS grid ref: SE305516 W3W: bunk.heap.flown

Starts 1.30-3pm. Courses close at 3.30pm.

Travel: Crimple Meadows is a short, 5 minute, walk from Pannal station, and also easily accessible from the Leeds/Ripon no. 36 bus. If you are traveling by car please park cautiously in the street on Crimple Meadows, not blocking the pavements for pedestrians or residents’ driveways. You will be able to see us from entering the park, up by the playground.

What’s available: There will be a series of short courses, each under 1km in length, to provide an opportunity for you to improve your orienteering skills. There will also be one course entirely in sight of the start/finish area so those who like the chance to orienteer on their own can do so safely. This course is also ideal for younger orienteers. A longer Orange* standard course will also be available for more experienced orienteers or those who have got on brilliantly with the short courses.

Terrain and Map: Crimple Meadows is a mixture of recreation ground, a small area of runnable woodland and some ginnels between houses. All courses will be car-free. The map will be 1:4000 scale.

Other information: Please dress appropriately for the weather and ground conditions, in particular footwear with good grip is ideal. Make sure you report back to us before leaving, even if retiring, so that we know you are safe. The area is extensively used by other members of the public, including dog walkers etc., so please be careful and give way when needed. There is no toilet at the event nor are there any nearby public toilets, so please go before arriving!

*Jargon explained: Orienteering uses a range of colours (like the judo belt system) to describe the technical difficulty of the courses, starting at White, and progressing through Yellow, Orange, Light Green to the highest level at Green/Blue/Brown/Black where the differences are then physical (length, climb) rather than technical. All courses at this event will be in the range White to Orange – best for junior beginners/intermediates and adult beginners.
